"Met Djibouti President and our talks centred on the entry of Kenya Airways to Djibouti and the lifting of visa requirements for citizens of the two countries,"Ruto said.

The two leaders met in Washington D.C .

Kenya has partnered with Djibouti in the past on various agreements and projects.

In June, Kenya announced plans to partner with Djibouti to construct Kenya’s fifth submarine cable(DARE).

The DARE is set to run from Djibouti to Mombasa and will act as a compliment to the current subsea optical fibers SEACOM, Easts African Marine Cable System (TEAMS), Eastern African Submarine Cable System (EASsy) and Lion2 that links Madagascar to Kenya.

One of the cables will run from Pakistan to Mombasa, then through the Suez Canal to Egypt and Europe.

In 2019, the two countries signed four pacts to deepen bilateral links

The agreements signed included trade agreement, MoU on bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector, agreement on reciprocal promotion and protection of investments and an agreement on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports.
