Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has vowed to lead the fight against illegal brews and drugs in the county.

Wamatangi said youth's lives are at risk since the vice has got to the villages.

"I am not afraid to fight illicit brew sellers, second-generation liquor and drugs which are ruining the lives of our youths, making them slaves," Wamatangi said.

He said that bars and liquor outlets which are near schools, churches and estates, will have their licences revoked.

"If you think your alcohol business will prosper at the expense of our youth lives, you should find somewhere else away from Kiambu. We are coming for you," Wamatangi said.

The governor said he has since disbanded the county liquor licensing board which will be reconstituted again.

"The liquor licensing board has failed to regulate the licensing of bars and liquor outlets hence giving licences to outlets which have been put in residential houses and near churches. We cannot allow this," he said.

Wamatangi called on county commissioner Joshua Nkanatha to escalate the fight against hard drugs especially bhang which has become a menace.

He also said the county bursary fund has been reviewed upward from Sh100 million to Sh200 million to increase the amount awarded to beneficiaries.

"The bursary fund given to our students ranged from Sh2,000 to Sh 3,000 which is not enough. We have increased the fund to Sh200 million," Wamatangi said.

He said the kitty will be disbursed the first week of January and has formulated a special form with schools where needy students will no longer be sent home due to lack of school fees when bursary fund is delayed.

Wamatangi said his administration has resulted in putting up solar lighting in every street to cut costs of electricity bills which has led to street lights being turned off.

"We will solar up our streets to enhance security," Wamatangi said.
