A double tragedy hit a family in Mumoni district in Mwingi North after a Probox ferrying body for burial overturned killing one of the mourners.
The accident happened about 300 metres from the Kamuwongo bridge just minutes after 12 noon along the Mwingi-Kyuso road.
The Kamuwongo chief, Jane Mwende, who was among the early responders said the vehicle rolled several times spilling the body before resting on its back.
She said the driver of the vehicle lost control after a front tyre burst and a lady mourner died on the spot.
The fate of other mourners and the driver was not immediately known as they were said to have fled in shock.
The chief said the mourners were headed for a funeral in Katooni village of Tyaa Kamuthale when tragedy struck.
