Havi among 8 PSC picks for Solicitor General post

The Public Service Commission has short listed eight people for the position of Solicitor General.

The PSC is seeking to replace Ken Ogeto whose has been the country's SG since 2018 when he was appointed by ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Among those short-listed is former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi.

Havi unsuccessfully ran for Westlands parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance ticket.

Former Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose who lost his bid to retain the seat on a UDA ticket is also in the list.

Others are Marykaren Kigen Sorobit, Beatrice Adhiambo Akuno,Paul Lilan, Beatrice Mugeni Meso, Stephen Ochieng Mallowah and George Kithi.

 

They will face the PSC on December 13 and 14 for interviews.

"Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the Public Service Commission, Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi on the date and time indicated. Candidates should be at the venue at least fifteen (15) minutes before the starting time," PSC said in a public notice.

Members of the public have been invited to avail any credible information of interest relating to the shortlisted candidates.

Ogeto assumed the post from Njee Muturi who was then moved to the post of State House Deputy Chief of Staff in changes.

The law provides that the solicitor general serves for a period of five years with the window for renewal for another term.

Ogeto's term is thus set to end in March 2023.

The Solicitor General is the accounting officer at the State Law Office and Department of Justice – currently headed by Attorney General Justin Muturi.

Among the requirements is that the applicant is a citizen of Kenya, holds a law degree from a recognized university. 

One must also be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya or holds qualifications from a common law jurisdiction.

At least 10 years of experience is required of the applicant, whom the PSC adds, should be of high moral character, integrity, and impartiality.

Key competencies include management capacity, resource management and supervisory skills.

The applicants must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.
