Kenyans with illegal firearms have been given one month to surrender the weapons to the nearest police stations. 

Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome on Monday said there are some youths who have reached out to Governor Johnson Sakaja saying they have guns.

He said the youth reached out to Sakaja saying they would wish to surrender their firearms, which they hold illegally.

Koome said youth in possession of illegal firearms have one month to surrender them to police stations 

He added that in a meeting with Sakaja, the governor had said he will not defend any criminal running to him for help once the police had caught up with him. 

He said Sakaja futher said there will be no political interference in criminal cases.

Koome also gave a stern warning to those walking with guns and knives in town.

He said they are instilling fear into innocent civilians and the police will catch up with them.
