Kirinyaga Senator James Murango has said miraa transporters are endangering the lives of residents with reckless driving.

The senator wants the Ministry of Road, Transportation and Public Works to inform the House whether the miraa drivers are compliant.

Presenting a statement to the House, Murango questioned the extent of compliance to provisions set down by drivers transporting khat in Kirinyaga.

"They continue to create havoc on Ndindiruku-Gathigiriri Prison road and Thiba, Red Soil, Murubara and Ngurubani areas," he said.

The senator enquired about the measures put in place to curb the accidents caused by miraa drivers.

Murango said that the government should cite actions being taken to ensure there is a peaceful coexistence among all road users.

He said the government should also strictly deal with traffic offenders to curb offences and accidents.
