The fake receipt went viral on social media on Friday.

In Summary

• The receipt stated that the former MP had paid Sh125,000 for UDA party Nairobi Senate seat nominations scheduled for April.

• The DP's director of communications Emmanuel Talaam confirmed that the receipt is not genuine.

On Friday, a receipt bearing Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s name and UDA party symbols went viral on social media.

The receipt stated that the former MP had paid Sh125,000 for UDA party Nairobi Senate seat nominations scheduled for April.

Fact checker has, however, established that the receipt is fake.

Speaking to the Star, the DP's director of communications Emmanuel Talaam confirmed that the receipt is not genuine.

Important to note, Bishop Wanjiru has only expressed interest in the governor seat and has been using her social media handles to campaign for the seat.

She is yet to announce that she will be vying for a different seat other than the governor.

Wanjiru is backing Deputy President William Ruto who is the de facto leader of the United Democratic Alliance ( UDA) Party.

The former Starehe Mp is among seven aspirants who have declared interest in the Nairobi governor seat.

Bishop Wanjiru is facing stiff competition, in Kenya Kwanza Alliance, from Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who has expressed interest to be governor.

Also seeking the same position is Westlands Mp Timothy Wanyonyi, on an ODM ticket.

Others seeking a seat on the Jubilee party ticket include the incumbent Governor Ann Kananu, businesswoman Agnes Kagure and former KNCCI boss  Richard Ngatia.

Ben Mulwa of the Wiper Party is also after the seat.
