At least ten police officers were admitted in hospital with stomach pains after a party at a hotel in Salgaa, Nakuru County.

Among those affected were senior officers from Menengai, Rongai and Salgaa police stations.

At least five other civilians were also affected in the incident.

They were treated at local hospitals with stomachache, diarrhoea and headache, police said.

The group had a get-together luncheon organised by officers from the Salgaa traffic base on March 23 and had food that included pilau, Mokimo, Chapatis, beef, and green vegetables.

They had hired cooks elsewhere and took them to the venue where the event happened.

Police said some of the officers have been treated and discharged while others are still undergoing treatment.

Officials said the diagnosis of the group was established to be food poisoning.

“Several other officers who were affected have improved and are in stable condition after seeking earlier treatment,” an officer affected by the incident said.
