JSC to interview seven shortlisted candidates for Registrar job

JSC posted a notice of vacancy for the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

The Judicial Service Commission is set to interview the seven shortlisted candidates for the position of the office of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary to replace Anne Amadi.

Macharia Rose Wachuka, Ouma Jack Busalile Mwimali, Mokaya Frida Boyani, Wambeti Anne Ireri, Ndemo Paul Maina, Kendagor Caroline Jepyegen and Kandet Kennedy Lenkamai will face a panel of interviewees from JSC at diverse times from 8:00 am to 5:oo pm today.

On October 23, 2023, the Commission posted a notice of vacancy for the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

"The advertisement was published in the local dailies and JSC digital platforms to allow all eligible persons to apply," said JSC.

The judicial commission reported that it received up to 43 applications but only the seven candidates were shortlisted.

The candidates are also expected to go through the process of vetting through background checks before they are selected for the position, in line with Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity and the Judicial Service Act of 2011.

"In fulfilment of these constitutional and statutory obligations, the JSC contacted the candidates’ references, employers, and professional bodies to provide information on the candidates. The Commission also invited members of the public to submit information of interest on the Candidates," JSC explained.

"The following vetting bodies were also requested for confidential reports; Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, National Intelligence Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Advocates Complaints Commission, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Credit Reference Bureau."

The office has been held before by Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss whose position was taken over by Anne Amadi.

Amadi administered the oath of office to President William Ruto in 2022 and to President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 while serving as the Chief Registrar.

The Chief Registrar is tasked with administering the judiciary fund and preparing reports and proposals on administration issues among other functions.

Once a candidate has been selected, the JSC is expected to communicate the appointment to the public.

Established under Article 172 of the Constitution, the JSC which Chief Justice Martha Koome chairs is required to promote and facilitate the independence and accountability of the Judiciary and the efficient, effective, and transparent administration of justice.
