President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday enjoyed a cup of Mursik while lighting up a home recently connected to electricity.

The two had arrived at the home to switch power on when they were served with Mursik in the company over other leaders including the Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

The president appeared to enjoy every bit of the moment as he called on other leaders who accompanied him to get a cup of the Kalenjin nation’s favourite traditional drink.

Mursik is traditional fermented cow or goat milk specially made in a calabash guard locally known as a sotet in the Kalenjin language.

The gourd is lined with soot from specific trees, such as the African senna, which adds flavour to the fermented milk.

The president and his deputy were served the Murski from a calabash guard by a woman as they laughed.

“Are there more MPs out there? Ask them to come and enjoy, I know they have never enjoyed Mursik,’’ Ruto was heard saying.

“Kones come and serve Mursik and I know you have never tested this.’’

The president then spoke for some time in his local dialect as he called on other leaders to serve the drink.

“Is there anyone who wants milk?’’Ruto asked.

He spent about 10 minutes in the family living room enjoying the moment.

As they left he entered a room where the homeowner records traditional music.

He used to record Mursik in Bomet town because there was no electricity at his home.

The same will now be done at his home after President Ruto lit up the home on Saturday.
