A review of the state of the US Dollar and its impact on the economy is one of the main agendas in Kenya Kwanza parliamentary group meeting in Naivasha.

The Star has established that the meeting between President William Ruto and his troops, which starts today will take stock of the progress of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.

It  is also likely to delve into the prevailing political atmosphere.

Insiders intimated to the Star that the issue of Raila Odinga’s acceptance of the African Union Commission chairperson job and how to deal with it going forward is likely to pop up.

“The AU election of Jakom (Raila Odinga) will pop up, and how that makes Kalonzo Musyoka the focus of our energies as the possible Azimio 2027 presidential candidate,” a source said.

An official report by Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, however, showed that the meeting will be for MPs to report the progress of the second session of Parliament.

“There will be a Kenya Kwanza parliamentary group meeting which will report on the progress of the second session of the 13th Parliament, to set the agenda for the third session,” he said in a statement.

After the meeting with MPs, President Ruto is scheduled to lead a high-level review of the performance of the current administration.

Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and other senior government officials are lined up to give reports of their respective departments in the session scheduled for February 20 and February 21.

Mwaura said the review will be in line with the resolutions of President Ruto’s inaugural retreat with top government officials.

“The retreat will also allow the government to evaluate the achievements made over the past 17 months to consolidate the gains made,” he said.

The spokesman said the government will review reports from an assessment of government performance across the 23 ministries, 51 state departments and 348 parastatals.

The meeting will also delve into a report by the Moses Kuria–led Public Service ministry which conducted ‘roadshows’ to assess the performance of MDAs.

The process involved CSs, PSs, CEOs of state corporations, representatives of constitutional commissions and independent offices and other senior government officials.

“The aim is to assess the alignment of the BETA plan and the medium-term plan under the Kenya Vision 2030 with other ongoing government processes, for effective planning and execution,” Mwaura said.

Anxiety has rocked government quarters ahead of the meeting seen as a precursor to a looming Cabinet shakeup.

The meeting is set to check the ministers' performance against the set indicators for their respective dockets.
