Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has vowed to put an end to illicit brew deaths.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Friday, the CS said illicit brew deaths should and will not happen again in Kirinyaga or any other part of the country.

"This should not happen again in Kirinyaga and any other part of Kenya. We can't have a mass burial again to bury our loved ones," Kindiki said

The CS pleaded with Kirinyaga residents to give the government time to fix the illicit brew menace.

"Give us a chance to correct this mess, because it is something that used to happen in the past but has revived," he said.

A tough-talking Kindiki said there is no going back on the nationwide war against illicit brew and abuse of drugs and other substances.

He said revelers at illicit brew joints will not be spared either in the war against the menace.

"As you lay your loved ones to rest tomorrow, I pray that God will comfort the families and the residents of this area. But unfortunately for the members of the public, please hear this; We are also going to be very ruthless with the consumers of poison."

The former Tharaka Nithi senator pointed out that it makes no sense  that when one hears their brother or neighbour died from poison yet they wake up and go to look for the same poison the following day.

This, according to the CS, means there is a problem.

Kindiki revealed that the government would take illicit brew addicts to rehabilitation but after being arrested.

"When we catch up with you, we'll also be very ruthless with you. We must help you before you destroy yourself. So that is why we are here today," he added.

The Interior boss, however, commended Kirinyaga residents for their cooperation as the government probes the illicit brew menace.

"I want to commend you for remaining calm and in exchange of your calmness and your patience for the government to act and address the situation," he said.

"I promise you that we will stay on this matter and we'll have it resolved. We will not have this kind of thing again," Kindiki affirmed.

The CS indicated that the government would fire all officers who failed to take action over the consumption of the illicit brew in Kirinyaga that claimed over 10 lives.

He added that the government would also pursue legal avenues to have the officers charged in court.
