Milimani Law Courts Judge Grace Nzioka on Friday found Joseph Irungu alias Jowie guilty of the murder of South Sudan-based businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Monica was murdered at her Lamuria Gardens house on the night of September 19, 2018, and the case has been ongoing for the past five years.

According to Justice Nzioka, the prosecution has adduced sufficient evidence and has met the threshold.

"All this evidence taken leaves a strong conclusion that Irungu murdered Monica Kimani."

Justice Nzioka also cancelled Jowie’s bail and he will now remain in custody until March 8, 2024, when he will be sentenced.

Who is Jowie?

He was born and raised in Nakuru and is the second born in a family of four, two boys and two girls.

He is also said to have schooled at the Kenya Polytechnic (currently known as Technical University of Kenya) before he left for Dubai.

Jowie first came to the limelight in June 2018 when he proposed to his now ex-girlfriend Jacque Maribe who at the time was a News anchor at Citizen TV.

At the time, the photos and videos he shared on his Instagram page depicted someone who worked in the security sector in the United Arab Emirates and after the engagement with Maribe, he always teased plans to open a high-end security firm in Kenya.

Some of his friends knew him as someone who offered Private Security services to VIPs.

All went well until he was identified as the main suspect in the murder of Monica Kimani, who was a businesswoman based in South Sudan.

Following his arrest, he was detained at Kamiti Prisons and later Manyani Prisons in Voi for 18 months before he was granted bail. He has been out on bail until Friday when he was found guilty.

After he was released on bail, Jowie moved to Nakuru where he lived with his parents briefly before he moved in with his new girlfriend who was called Eleanor ‘Ella’ Musangi. Ella was also a model.

During this time, Jowie got saved and became a gospel musician and went on to release three songs before he took a break.

Last month he released a new song and the fifth a few minutes after he was found guilty.

In December 2020, he ended his relationship with Eleanor.
