A man died after he jumped off his house to escape a fire incident in Pangani area, Nairobi.

A fire had broken out on the first floor of an apartment along North View Road at the weekend blocking those on the upper floor.

The smoke from the fire spread into the upper floors sending panic among those in there.

Police said they were trapped in the upper floors during the 3 am incident.

A man who was on the balcony of his fourth-floor room tried to jump to the next balcony which was about three meters under his house as part of effort to escape the fire.

Police said he missed his target and hit the wall of the balcony before he dropped to the ground floor.

He landed headfirst dying on the spot.

Property of unknown value was destroyed before a fire engine joined efforts to contain the fire.

Police said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Elsewhere, a 35-year-old man collapsed and died in his house in the Parkroad area, Nairobi.

The body of Moses Macharia who was a casual electrician was discovered dead in his room at the weekend long after he had collapsed, police said.

The deceased had a history of chest problems and chronic coughs, his roommate said.

Police said there were blood stains and vomit from the mouth at the scene where the body was found.

Elsewhere, a Ugandan national was found dead in Shauri Moyo Shopping centre after a suspected murder.

The body of Milton Tesan, 23 was found with physical injuries on the head, police said.

The motive of the murder and those behind it are yet to be known, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

In Malindi, the decomposed body of a man was found on the banks of river Galana within the Paziani sub-location.

Police said the body was trapped on the silt and is suspected to have been a victim of the recent floods.

The floods have killed up to 300 people and displaced thousands of others. Dozens are missing.

Those displaced are camping in various places.

There are fears of an outbreak of diseases out of the floods amid efforts to address the menace.
