Engagements between the Executive and Judiciary have continued to take place as on Monday, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria held a meeting with Chief Justice Martha Koome

Revealing details of the meeting,  CS Kuria highlighted the interdependence of the three arms of the government, emphasizing the need for collaboration to address challenges faced by the national government.

According to the CS, top of the major concerns raised was the prolonged duration of court cases, negatively impacting the government's ability to deliver timely services to citizens.

"Many senior Executive officials have expressed their concerns about delayed court cases affecting the national government's efficiency in serving the citizens," Kuria said.

The CS noted that the meeting marked a pivotal step towards fostering collaboration between the Executive and the Judiciary, with a shared commitment to enhancing service delivery and efficiency in the country's legal processes.

The discussions were also centred also on the ongoing efforts to integrate judicial services with the eCitizen platform.

On her side, CJ Koome stated that they are looking forward to having judicial services on the eCitizen platform.

"We are actively working towards bonding our services on the eCitizen platform, streamlining access to justice for the public," she added.

The two also engaged on the collaboration between the Judiciary and Huduma Centres.

CS Kuria acknowledged the positive reception of services at the six pilot centres and expressed optimism about the nationwide rollout.

"The partnership between the Judiciary and Huduma centres is crucial in ensuring Kenyans receive efficient services. We are working towards a seamless integration that benefits the public," he explained.

The Chief Justice was accompanied by Justice Kanyi Kimondo, the Acting Chief Registrar, and senior Judiciary officers. On the Executive side, attendees included PSs Mercy Wanjau, Julius Bittok, and Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura, among others.

Huduma Kenya has undergone various transformations since Kuria took over as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.

Last week, it marked a new beginning as judiciary services went live in six pilot Huduma Centres.

They include Nairobi GPO, City Square, Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh and Kiambu.

CS Kuria stated that the Judicial desks at the centres will be manned by Judiciary staff.

Some of the judicial services to be offered at Huduma Centre are filing of new civil cases, filing documents of existing cases and requests for and issuance of summons to enter an appearance, notice to appear in divorce cases, extracted court orders, decrees, certified and uncertified proceedings, copy of ruling/judgment.

Also, request and issuance of mention dates, general case inquiries, e-filing support, payments of fines and deposits and virtual court support.

The CS also announced that the judicial services will be rolled out to the rest of the 52 centres across the country.

"The judicial services will later be rolled out in all Huduma Jitume Centres in the 290 constituencies once they are constructed under a partnership with MPs, the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy and my ministry," Kuria said.

At the same time, training for National Police Officers is attached to all the 52 Huduma Centres at the National Police College main campus-Kiganjo kicked off last week

The training is aimed at improving customer service excellence and it’s the first of its kind for Huduma Kenya, given the target group who are front-line officers.

"This training is aligned to the Huduma Kenya Customer Excellence training programme which emphasizes a customer-centric and experiential delivery approach," a statement by Huduma Centre reads.

The exercise will run for 10 days, from January 29 to February 9, 2024.

Still last week, Huduma Kenya announced the introduction of a new contact centre number, 1919.

"It's short and sweet. 1919 Ndio Form !" a notice on their official social media handles read.
