Kenyans can now seek information at Huduma centres by just dialling using their phones.

On Tuesday, Huduma Kenya announced the introduction of a new contact centre number, 1919.

"It's short and sweet. 1919 Ndio Form !" reads a notice on their official social media handles.

The Huduma Kenya programme was created to facilitate the provision of a wide array of government services in a single unit dubbed Huduma Centre.

For this reason, Huduma Kenya merges numerous related public services within one location, possibly on the same floor so that Kenyans can easily access them.

The first Huduma Center Nairobi was launched in 2013 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta alongside then Deputy William Ruto at the Teleposta Building in Nairobi.

Some of the services offered at the centres include the issuance of driver’s licences, national identity cards, and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

Other are National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) registration and claims, HELB – Student Loan Application and Repayments, Registration of Welfare Groups, issuance of police abstracts, single business permit and stamp duty assessment among others.

Last year, Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria commended former President Uhuru Kenyatta for the establishment of Huduma Centres in the country.

Kuria said the current regime led by President William Ruto would expand the programme to subcounty levels starting with Molo.

“That is how good governments work, one regime starts a good programme and the successive ones grow it to the next level,” he said during the 10th Anniversary of Huduma Kenya Service Delivery Programme celebrations in Nakuru.

On Monday, a new beginning was marked as judiciary services went live in six pilot Huduma Centres.

They include Nairobi GPO, City Square, Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh and Kiambu.

CS Kuria stated that the Judicial desks at the centres will be manned by Judiciary staff.

Some of the judicial services to be offered at Huduma Centre are filing of new civil cases, filing documents of existing cases and requests for and issuance of summons to enter appearance, notice to appear in divorce cases, extracted court orders, decrees, certified and uncertified proceedings, copy of ruling/judgement.

Also, request and issuance of mention dates, general case inquiries, e-filing support, payments of fines and deposits and virtual court support.

The CS also announced that the judicial services will be rolled out to the rest of the 52 centres across the country.

"The judicial services will later be rolled out in all Huduma Jitume Centres in the 290 constituencies once they are constructed under a partnership with MPs, the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy and my ministry," Kuria said.

At the same time, training for National Police Officers is attached to all the 52 Huduma Centres at the National Police College main campus-Kiganjo kicked off on the same day.

The training is aimed at improving customer service excellence and it’s the first of its kind for Huduma Kenya, given the target group who are front-line officers.

"This training is aligned to the Huduma Kenya Customer Excellence training programme which emphasizes a customer-centric and experiential delivery approach," a statement by Huduma Centre reads.

The exercise will run for 10 days, from January 29 to February 9 2024.
