The High Court will today determine a case challenging the deployment of officers to Haiti.

Judge Chacha Mwita had on October 24 last year extended orders stopping the deployment of the officers to Haiti for a peacekeeping mission pending the determination of a case filed by Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot.

In the case, Aukot sued President William Ruto and his administration in a bid to block the peacekeeping mission that will see the deployment of at least 1,000 police officers to the gang-ridden nation.

He argued that Kenya has not ratified any law or treaty to allow the deployment of police officers outside the country.

Monica Kimani murder case

Separately, the High Court will this morning pronounce its judgement against Jacque Maribe and her ex-fiancee Jowie Irungu.

Jowie is the first accused person in the murder trial of Monica.

He was charged alongside Jacque Maribe in 2018.

Monica’s body was found at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment which is located on Kitale Lane off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani.

The prosecution called 35 witnesses who testified against the two.

Although they have denied knowing Monica or being involved in her death, assistant DPP Gikui Gichuki said the evidence they presented in court was sufficient to have them convicted.

Gichuki said Jowie, up to date, has denied knowing the deceased although the deceased's brother informed the court that he knew the deceased.

They went to school together.

The prosecution in asking the court to convict them asked the court to consider the fact that Jowie burnt his clothes to conceal evidence and that the DNA produced in the court linked him as having been present in the deceased's house on the night she was murdered.
