A senior official at the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company has been arrested over the alleged forgery of his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate.

The arrest was conducted on Thursday by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Court.

Confirming the arrest, EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said the suspect forged the academic certificate to secure admission for a university degree.

"The suspect scored Grade D in his KCSE but forged a fake certificate awarding himself a Grade C+ (plus) which he used to secure admission at the university," Ngumbi said.

The EACC spokesperson said the Commission will recover all salaries and benefits that the official has earned on the basis of invalid academic qualifications.

The official is being detained at Garissa Police Station pending arraignment on Friday.

The Commission established, through investigations, that the suspect genuinely got a mean grade of D in his KCSE but altered it to C+.

Using the forged Certificate, he successfully earned a Diploma in Public Relations and a Certificate in Purchasing and Supplies at the University of Nairobi, and subsequently a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies at Mt. Kenya University.

In addition to the criminal prosecution, the Commission will move to Curt to recover the cumulative total of Sh12,987,290 in salaries and benefits that he has earned since 2015 based on invalid academic qualifications acquired based on a fake KCSE Certificate

The arrest came after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concurred with recommendations of EACC to charge the suspect with the following offences: Fraudulent acquisition of public funds to wit salary of approximately Sh 12,987,290, Forgery of Academic Certificates and Uttering a false document
