Learning at St Gabriel’s Isongo secondary school in Mumias East constituency has been crippled after the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) transferred all 17 teachers at the school Thursday.

The transfer comes a week after angry parents forcefully ejected the school principal David Wanjala and Director of Studies Godfrey Masibo for “posting poor results” in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Education officials held a meeting with the school Board of Management (BOM) and representatives of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) for the better part of Thursday to try and hammer a solution.

Mumias East subcounty director of education Boniface Ouko said that the school was now under the control of the Board of Management and teachers hired by the board pending directions.

Ouko said that parents should remain patient as discussions were still ongoing to resolve the matter.

He said that the ministry officials will meet with TSC CEO Nancy Macharia on the way forward.

County TSC Director Margaret Kinyanjui declined to comment when reached for comment.

“No comment please,” she quipped.

Earlier during the day, area MP Peter Salasya ran into a hostile environment at the school when he attempted to ask area MCA Peter Walunya to apologise publicly over the fracas that broke out at a funeral in the ward a week ago.

Salasya who arrived at the school when a catholic father was speaking demanded to be allowed to address the gathering as the area MP.

“Starting from now I don’t want to see anybody in this school apart from students and teachers."

He then went ahead and asked Walunya to apologise but he ignored him.

He ordered students to go to class but they yelled at him forcing him to leave

Trouble at the school started on Thursday last week after parents of the school teamed up with bodaboda operators and forcefully ejected the school principal David Wafula.

The parents accused the principal of presiding over the drop in education standards.

They said that the mean score of the school was 5.2 when he took over the school.

They said the mean score dropped to 4.3 and finally 2.89 last year.

The school registered 179 candidates but only managed to produce two university entry grades, as the majority scored D- and four Es.
