Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned President William Ruto for openly declaring his refusal to adhere to court orders.

On Saturday, Kalonzo emphasized that the judiciary deserves respect from all Kenyans, regardless of their societal status.

He asserted that the independence of the judiciary is non-negotiable.

“Yesterday( Friday), as a senior council, I joined other young and middle-level practitioners together with LSK President. There are youth who have volunteered to protect the dignity and freedom of our courts,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader was addressing mourners during a burial ceremony at Kyangala in Kalama, Machakos County.

“We can’t play with that arm of government, the judiciary; lawyers, magistrates, judges and all court officials,” Kalonzo said.

The ex-vice president highlighted that the Kenyan Constitution of 2010 has bestowed fundamental freedoms and rights upon our nation.

Additionally, he voiced criticism against the police for their disruption of recent birthday celebrations for ODM chief Raila Odinga in Nairobi.

“They teargassed Baba’s cake. The Kenya Kwanza government will get to historical books as the most obnoxious administration in this country,” Kalonzo said.

“You can’t do these things if you believe in the rule of law. So, the independence of the judiciary isn’t negotiable. We need to put a stop to this thing,” he added.

Furthermore, Kalonzo stated that if the executive branch wishes to persist in making noise, they should do so.

However, he emphasized the importance of allowing the judicial arm of the government to function independently and without interference.

Addressing the issue of taxes, he remarked, "The issue at hand is that these taxes are unconstitutional. If given the authority today, I would nullify the executive order compelling all Kenyans with pay slips to pay the housing tax because, as it stands, it is unconstitutional, and we cannot evade this reality."
