Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has responded to Azimio la Umoja spokesperson Makau Mutua after he dared Kamwene allied leaders to call for protests.

Kamwene is a formation of Mt Kenya region leaders from within Azimio.

According to Kioni, it is unfortunate that people like Mutua have set protests as a measure of loyalty to political outfits.

He said that he has also set it as the measure of gaining respect within Azimio, despite many Kenyans losing lives through the demonstrations, in efforts to have a better country.

Kioni also insisted that despite the remarks by Mutua, they (Kamwene) will remain firmly in the Opposition outfit.

He also told off the Azimio spokesman, urging him to only engage him on important issues.

"It's unfortunate that some busybodies led by Makau Mutua have set ‘maandamano’ as a standard to measure loyalty or respect granted to individuals in Azimio," Kioni said on X.

"A process in which many Kenyans lost their leaves fighting for a better Kenya. We firmly remain in Azimio to stay. Get back to me on substantive issues."

Makau Mutua had on Monday said he would only take the Kamwene outfit seriously, the day they will call for protests in their Mt Kenya backyards.

"I will take my brother Jeremiah Kioni seriously when he and his Kamwene siblings organise Maandamano in the Mountain," he said.

Mutua and Kioni have been throwing barbs at each other over the Azimio coalition.

It all started when Mutua said that anyone in the coalition who was not supporting the National Dialogue Committee's report should leave the outfit.

He insisted that Azimio is not a forced marriage, and the report is a product of the coalition's agreed democratic processes.

"Azimio isn’t a forced marriage. Please leave if you can’t support the Nadco report which is the product of the party’s agreed democratic processes," Mutua said on X.

Kioni later on responded saying that they were not the Opposition coalition on Mutua's invite.
