Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has been identified as the lowest-performing CS in President William Ruto's Cabinet.

According to a report released by Tifa on Wednesday, Chirchir, who has been grappling with public dissatisfaction over increased fuel prices and power outages, received a performance score of 19 per cent.

In comparison, his Gender counterpart, Aisha Jumwa, scored slightly higher at 23 per cent.

National Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u was rated as the third worst-performing Cabinet Secretary, securing a score of 24 per cent. He shares this ranking with counterparts Zachariah Njeru of Water and Lands Ministries and Land's CS Alice Wahome.

Other Cabinet Secretaries in the bottom 10 include Florence Bore of Labour (25 per cent), Rebecca Miano of Trade (27 per cent), Moses Kuria of Public Service (27 per cent), Peninah Malonza of EAC (27 per cent), and Simon Chelugui of Cooperatives Development (31 per cent).

Energy CS Chirchir last week found himself compelled to elucidate the occurrence of the third nationwide power outage in less than six months.

This outage was preceded by escalated fuel prices, standing at Sh217.36, Sh203.47, and Sh203.06 for petrol, diesel, and kerosene, respectively.

The sustained high fuel prices, exceeding the Sh200 threshold, have caused discomfort for Kenyans both at the pumps and in grocery stores, leading to an overall increase in the cost of various products.

At the same time, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki emerged as the top-performing Cabinet Secretary with a commendable 65 per cent approval rating.

Following closely are Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi (62 per cent), Education's Ezekiel Machogu (58 per cent), Transport's Kipchumba Murkomen (57 per cent), and Health's Susan Nakhumincha (57 per cent).

The survey was conducted on 3,009 respondents between November 25 to December 7, 2023.

Telephonic Interviews were conducted with respondents whose contacts were collected through face-to-face.

The interviews were conducted in Kiswahili (mainly) and English. There was a +/- 1.79 % margin of error.
