The main suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital Finance Officer Eric Maigo is set to know whether she will be charged or not as the prosecution is set to close its miscellaneous file today.

The 16-year-old was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts last month where police obtained orders to have her detained for 21 days pending further probe on the matter.

The minor was arrested following a report of murder at Woodley Annex in Kibera.

Officer Patrick Boge had told Milimani principal magistrate Zainab Abdul that on September 15, a report was made by one Amina Komara at Kibra police station that there was a commotion at house number 6 Woodley Estate Annex Upper of Kibra.

He said a team of police officers from Kilimani subcounty visited the crime scene and established that the deceased Eric Maigo,37, was lying with multiple stab wounds on the chest, face and neck and secured the scene.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was in the company of the respondent herein before he was found murdered where she is suspected to have attacked the deceased while armed with kitchen knives," the court was told.

Boge said investigations indicate that the minor was among the group that orchestrated the violence which resulted in the death of the deceased.

The police officers who visited the crime scene did recover the murder weapons.

"The continued detention of the respondent is immensely necessary for the furtherance and finalising of the investigations, his release could further lead to interference with the investigation," Boge said in his affidavit.

Court to give direction on contempt proceedings against EABL bosses

Justice Chacha Mwita is to give directions on applications challenging contempt proceedings against East African Breweries Limited (EABL) bosses in a protracted legal battle with its former distributor, Bia Tosha.

Justice Hedwig Ongundi was handling the matter but she was transferred.

In February this year, the Supreme Court found the officials in contempt over the termination of a contract with Bia Tosha and reverted the matter back to the High Court for punishment.

Those the Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) is seeking to have cited for contempt are EABL directors Andrew Cowan and Jane Karuku, together with Kenya Breweries Limited sales director Andrew Kilonzo.
