President William Ruto has appointed Titus Korir as board chair of Kenya Forest Service.

In a gazette notice on Friday, the President revoked the appointment of Job Chirchir.

Ruto said Korir will serve in the position for a period of three years.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9(1) (a) of the Forest Conservation and Management Act, I William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoint Titus Kipkoech Korir to be the chairperson of Kenya Forest Service, for a period of three years, with effect from the October 23, 2023," Ruto said in gazette notice No. 13860 and dated October 12.

The changes come just two days after the President ordered the removal of KFS officials found to have engaged in the plunder of countries' forest resources.

While speaking during the pass-out of KFS graduates in Gilgil, Nakuru county on Wednesday, Ruto said those who have led to the destruction of forests be removed from the government.

"I have instructed the Kenya Forest Service board that all those engaged in corruption be fired and be taken to court. We have already found 23 forest managers and rangers," Ruto said.

"From tomorrow I do not want them to be in government payroll. These are people who are saboteurs," he added.

Environment CS Soipan Tuya on Thursday committed to take action saying no one would be sparred by the ongoing reforms in the sector.

The CS said all the 23 KFS officials the President mentioned had been sacked.

In a gazette notice on Friday, Tuya also kicked out a board member that has been mentioned to be having huge stake in logging business.

The CS revoked the appointment of Zakayo Maina as KFS board member in a gazette notice No. 13868.

Tuya replaced Maina with Jane Munka whose appointment takes effect from October 23 for a period three years.

On Friday, the Star reported that a section of KFS board members had an interest in logging, a move that invited a conflict of interest.
