Kitui county to go paperless by next year

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has announced  the county's decision to run a paperless government by next year.

He said the move follows county's embrace of the digital reality.

“I want the Deputy Governor, the ministers and all of us to know that by either next year or the year after we will have cabinet meetings which are paperless and paperless offices too,” Malombe said.

He said he successfully adopted the paperless sytem when he was Kenya Water Towers chairman.

“That is where we need to start going and you do not get anywhere unless you plan for it,” Malombe said.

The governor has directed the department in charge of ICT in Kitui to start planning towards the move.

He said the digital move will provide an efficient and more effective service delivery to the people of Kitui.

Malombe spoke yesterday when he launched the myCounty App platform for Kitui county which will serve as a one stop shop for county services.

The app was developed in collaboration with Safaricom.

Safaricom Chief Corporate Security Officer, Nicholas Mulila, said it is high time counties adopted advanced technology in service delivery.

Malombe  said the digital platform will enable payment for county services, revenue management, citizen reporting among other services.

“I want  to reiterate that as the CEO of this county, I am happy that today we are launching a digital platform which will enable the people of this county to access our services,” he said.

Malombe thanked Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa for the development of the myCounty App for Kitui county.

The governor said he was ready to work and partner with other organisations to improve the lives of Kitui people.

“Our passion and  commitment for selflessly serving the people of Kitui remain steady and focused as we work tirelessly toward  transforming Kitui into a prosperous county with vibrant rural and urban economies,” he noted.

Mulila said the launch of the App marked the start of a big journey with the County of Kitui to ensure delivery of  efficient services to local residents.

He  praised governor Malombe and  his administration for the progressive partnership  with Safaricom that focused on positively transforming the lives of the people of Kitui.

“We are partnering with Kitui not as friends but because the county - as an organization has a plan”. he said.  He  said more partnership in the area of health and  skills development was in the offing.
