Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo has steered clear of the suspension of the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba.

Speaking on Wednesday, Owalo said that he has not received any information regarding Chiloba's suspension.

"That one is being handled at the Communication Authority level, it did not come to my desk. Once it comes to my desk, I will deal with it," he said.

"I am in Mombasa, and I haven't seen anything on my desk on that issue, once it comes to my desk I will deal with it the best way I know how. There are procedures in governance," he said.

Owalo added that his role is to deal with policy formation.

The CS further said that he cannot speak on what he has not yet received official communication.

On September 19, Chiloba was suspended as the CA Director General and Christopher Wambua was appointed as Acting Director General.

An internal memo by board chair Mary Mungai communicated the suspension on Monday following a board meeting.

"Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice. I trust that you will accord him the necessary support," Mungai said.

The suspension comes two years after his appointment to the docket. He took over from Francis Wangusi following his retirement in 2021.

According to the appointment letter, Chiloba was to serve in the position for a renewable period of four years.
