Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed why the ODM party chose to spare Woman Representative Esther Passaris from expulsion.

On Tuesday, Sifuna said that Passaris humbled and apologized when she appeared before the disciplinary committee to show cause.

“Passaris came and apologised, however, the rest of the MPs were scornful in their utterances during the disciplinary hearing, another even came in the company of a UDA lawyer while another failed to make an appearance before the disciplinary committee," he said.

The Senator noted that the other ODM MPs displayed blatant disrespect to the party which tainted ODM's image hence they were expelled.

Last week, the ODM party fined  Passaris for going against the party position and voting for the Finance Bill, 2023, now an Act.

The party said Passaris would have to pay Sh250,000 as a fine for defying the party besides issuing a written apology within seven days.

ODM  said the resolution was arrived at during a National Executive Committee of the party held on Wednesday under the leadership of Party leader Raila Odinga.

"That Esther Passaris, the Woman MP for Nairobi County be reprimanded for her outright defiance of the party position on the punitive Finance Bill 2023 and that she should issue a written apology to the party within seven days," the party said.
