Madison Life Assurance and HF Group have started construction of the  Villakazi Homes project, a multi-billion mixed-use development in Athi River, Machakos county.

The two firms broke ground at the project site earlier this week. The two firms said they would develop 700 homes as well as other facilities such as supermarkets, offices and other retail establishments that can make it easy to live in.

“There are going to be over 700 homes in this area together with commercial facilities such as gyms, supermarkets and shopping areas. This is one of the biggest projects in this region and we are excited to be doing this,” Madison Life Assurance MD, Githua Ngaruiya, said after the groundbreaking ceremony.

He added that the Villakazi Homes will be quality homes in a gated community. Designs for the homes have been pre-approved by the county

HFC said the Villakazi Homes project would be a milestone for the lender, noting that the count of homes that it has played a key role in developing will reach 20,000.

"At HFC, we have been able to develop over 19,000 since inception and with this project we are able to deliver the 20,000th home to our customers. These are projects that we have been involved directly and we are looking at the possibility of rewarding one of our home buyers with the 20,000th,” HFDI executive director Joseph Kamau said.

HFDI is HF Group’s real estate arm.

HF has developed many landmarked projects including parts of Buruburu and Komarok in Nairobi.

The Villakazi project will be built on 100 acres of land valued at Sh3 billion and provided by Madison.

HFC – HF Group’s banking subsidiary – will offer end-user buyer financing, project management and sales support for the project.
