Double Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon has won Kenya's first gold in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Kipyegon made Kenya proud after winning the 1500m race clocking three minutes, 54 seconds (3:54.87).

Her win saw President William Ruto lead Kenyans in congratulating her.

Ruto described Kipyegon as a rare athlete and legend whose talent is unmatched.

"Peerless, a legend and a once-in-a-generation talent. Congratulations Faith Kipyegon for winning our first gold after defending the 1500m title for the 3rd time in a row in Budapest World Championship," he said in a tweet.

First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto also congratulated Kipoyegon and said her performance has made Kenya proud.

"The colours of our flag shine even brighter today, thanks to Faith's exceptional achievement. She has made Kenya proud," Mama Rachel said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his part said:

"The nation's golden hero brings home Kenya's first Gold in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. What a gem we are lucky to have. May your star continue to shine, Faith!"
