Ruto congratulates Tuwei after election as World Athletics vice president

President William Ruto has congratulated Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei following his election as the Vice President of the World Athletics.

Tuwei currently serves as the President of Athletics Kenya.

In a message on Twitter, Ruto asked Tuwei to leverage the position to better the sports situation in Kenya and the world at large.

"Congratulations Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, President Athletics Kenya, on your election as Vice President of World Athletics in Budapest, Hungary," Ruto said.

"Use your new position to improve the sport in Kenya and the world."

Tuwei also serves as the Confederation of Africa Athletics Senior Vice President and President of the Eastern Africa Athletics Region.

He is also a member of the World Athletics Global Calendar Committee.

Tuwei is also the chairman of the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund.

Other vice presidents of World Athletics are former Colombian sprinter, Ximena Restrepo, who got 154 votes, retired Spanish triple jumper Raul Chapado (119), and former Indian sprinter Adille Sumariwalla (115).
