President William Ruto has continued too rubbish claims of a possible handshake between him and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Sunday, he instead said they will meet in the 2027 general elections.

"My friends, I was even asking some of these leaders, do I look like someone who would waste Kenyans that voted early in the morning and go sit with someone under a tree and shake hands?" Ruto posed.

"That will not happen. Lets us meet in 2027, I will be waiting at the ballot box," he added.

The Head of State emphasised that bipartisan talks and dialogue will only be on the five issues raised.

 Regarding the creation of the office of the Opposition leader Ruto said: "These people at times are not strategic. I was ready to create such an office for the opposition leader and its work will be to oversight," he said.

Acknowledging that oversight is important, Ruto said he changed the Standing Orders so that his Cabinet Secretaries can be answerable to Kenyans.

"Oversight is part of improving the governance of our country, " he said.

The law if agreed and passed, will also give Opposition Chief Raila Odinga and future holders of the office powers and discretion to solicit and mobilise for funding from donors as one way to supplement its budgetary allocation and to finance its activities.
