Maina Njenga's family demands to know his whereabouts

His lawyer Njiru said they are yet to know where he was taken.

The family of Ex- Mungiki  Maina Njenga is demanding to know the whereabouts of their loved ones.

Speaking on Friday at Milimani court in Nairobi, Murungaru Kamiti who is the family spokesman said that Maina Njenga was wrongfully arrested.

He added that the State is violating his constitutional rights by wrongfully detaining him without revealing his exact whereabouts.

"Hakuna mtu anajua Maina alifanya nini; kwani hii serikali imekuwa aje? Ni nini amefanya adhulumiwe? Tunataka kujua yuko wapi na tunataka haki ya Maina Njenga," he said.

Another relative claimed that  Njenga was unwell and they were looking for him to give out medicine.

The former Mungiki leader was allegedly arrested by police on Wednesday

He was arrested while in lower Matasia in Ngong and taken to an undisclosed location, his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said.

The family revealed that he was in his father’s house when police in unmarked cards arrived at about 8 pm and arrested him.

The team said they wanted to question him over ongoing anti-government protests in the country.

More than five people were shot and 30 injured in separate incidents in the country on that same day.

It is not clear what motivated the police to target Njenga.

His lawyer Njiru said they are yet to know where he was taken.
