Residents of the Noonkopir area of Kitengela in Kajiado woke up to find a dead body of a man near a stone crusher on Sunday.

It was not clear if the man, who most believed to be a boda boda rider, was killed in Nookopir or if the body was dumped there after being murdered.

Others identified the dead man by one name and claimed he could have been killed elsewhere and his body taken to Noonkopir at night.

Most people who spoke to the Star at the scene said cases of mugging in the area have risen in the last three months making it dangerous to walk alone at night.

Kitengela OCS David Shani said the man was killed elsewhere and dumped on the Nkurrunka Road in Noonkopir after the killers took away his motorbike.

"We have just begun our investigations, but our preliminary reports indicate the killers were after the dead man's motorbike. We are calling upon members of the public who could have witnessed the killing happening to assist us with such information," said Shani.

Shani admitted that the crime rate in the Noonkopir area of the town is slightly higher than in other areas.

"Although we have brought down the crime rate in the whole of Kitengela, we still have small pockets of crime which we are dealing with," said Shani.

He said the only way to beat crime is for the people of Kitengela to collaborate with the police.

The OCS said the body will be taken to the Kitengela sub-county hospital for preservation as it waits to be identified by relatives.
