Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi cautioned Kenyans to prepare for tough times ahead following the passing of the Finance Bill 2023.

Speaking on Thursday in Githogoro during the official opening of the newly tarmacked Githogoro-Runda link road, Wanyonyi absolved Azimio MPs from any blame over the passage of the controversial bill.

"Kenya Kwanza politicians used their numerical strength in Parliament to ensure the bill passed despite protests from Kenyans," he said.

The MP said by passing the 16 per cent VAT on fuel, Kenya Kwanza had officially handed Kenyans a heavy burden as prices of almost everything will rise.

“Be prepared to tighten your belts. You (some of you here) are the ones who voted this administration into power,  just find a way to deal with it,” he said.

Wanyonyi said Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition will remain steadfast in championing the rights and well-being of Kenyans while blaming the Kenya Kwanza administration for the high cost of living.

At the same time, he urged the youths to desist from engaging in criminal activities and called on residents to work closely with police officers in curbing crime.

"Locals should lead in making sure that we leave in a secure community by reporting criminals to police and to be on the lookout for suspicious characters," he said.

To avoid being tempted into crime, he urged the youths to embrace education and seek useful skills to eke an honest living.

Wanyonyi donated a car washing machine to one of the youth groups in Githogoro to empower them.
