Phase three of the exhumation of bodies from Shakahola forest has been suspended to pave way for postmortem to be conducted.

The suspension came on a day the body count rose to 336 after ten more bodies were exhumed Friday.

Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha while giving the daily briefing said the date of the postmortem will be communicated later.

"Exhumation suspended to prepare for an autopsy to be conducted on the bodies that have been exhumed during phase 3. Date to be communicated in due course," she said.

She said DNA samples collected from the relatives of victims have reached 93. A total of 36 people have been arrested in connection with the murders while 95 people have so far been rescued alive.

The regional commissioner said those identified by their families are 19 while those reported missing are 613.

The victims are believed to be followers of controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie of the Good News International Church in Kilifi County.

He is accused of brainwashing them into believing that they would meet Jesus if they starved themselves to death.
