Pharmacist in court for conducting abortion on 15-year-old

A pharmacist has been charged before a Mombasa court for conducting an induced abortion on a 15-year-old girl.

The girl is said to have conceived after being defiled.

Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku heard that Amos Nzioki committed the offence on June 3, 2023 at his private chemist in Tudor.

Nzioki allegedly induced the minor with an assorted drugs leading to the abortion.

The girl's guardian reported the incident to the police who took her to Coast General Hospital where the abortion was confirmed after doctors carried out an examination.

Nzioki pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on Sh300,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

Police are still looking for a man accused of defiling and impregnating the minor.
