Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned Members of Parliament who will vote against the Finance Bill.

Speaking on Sunday during a Thanksgiving Church Service in Narok, the DP said MPs who oppose the Finance Bill should not ask for development in their areas.

Gachagua said some leaders are telling Kenyans to reject the Finance Bill yet they want services from the government.

"Kama mbunge wenyu anasema watu wasilpe kodi, asiulize barabara kwa sababu itatoka wapi?" he said.

(If your MP advises you not to support the bill then they should not ask for roads in their areas).

The DP said when he was in Kitui an MP who gave a speech told the residents to reject Finance Bill in his presence.

He questioned why the MP would say that and yet expect to be financed for projects such as roads and hospitals.

The Bill which is already at the National Assembly awaiting the MPs' decision, has been subject to fierce criticism from leaders and Kenyans alike.

While speaking at the same event, Ruto said he is waiting to see the MPs who will oppose the bill.

"I am waiting for the Members of Parliament who will go and vote against the employment of these young people, against housing that would give these people the chance to own a house with five per cent mortgage," he said.

He said the lawmakers had fewer mortgages because of the tax paid by the public.

Ruto called upon the Kenya Kwanza legislators to pass it while the opposition leader Raila Odinga has urged Azimio MPs to reject it.

The Bill proposes, among others, that employees contribute three per cent towards the Housing Fund Levy.

This, Ruto said, is not a tax but a contribution and saving scheme towards the affordable housing project.

He also said the contribution is mandatory.
