Housing PS Charles Hinga has said that Housing Levy Fund will not be diverted to other government projects.

Speaking on Wednesday at Spice FM, Hinga said the Fund belongs to Kenyans and it has rules to guide on how it will be spent.

This is after Kenyans raised concerns about who will manage the proposed National Housing Development Fund.

"I can tell you the Housing Levy fund will never ever be diverted to go and pay pending bills or pay for subsidised petrol even if there is a crisis because it is members' money and it has rules," he said.

The PS added that Housing Fund governance will be released once the statute is amended.

"The reason why you have not seen us put out the governance structure is because the information is contained in regulations. If you read the current bill it says that it will not be implemented until the regulations are in place," he said.

Hinga said the regulations will be gazetted for every Kenyan to see.

This is after the Housing Fund proposal drew mixed reactions from leaders and Kenyans.

President William Ruto insisted that he is determined to see the Housing project to the end, despite strong opposition from Kenyans.

He said that the creation of employment is what's driving him to introduce the plans to Kenyans.

"The real motivation behind it (housing project) is the jobs we are going to create for the young people of Kenya. Ni kuhakikisha kwamba vijana wanapata ajira (It's to ensure the youth are employed)," Ruto said last Friday.

Ruto said the government will need five youths for every house to be constructed.
