The Government of Kenya has continued to remain cagey on who will manage the proposed National Housing Development Fund.

According to the Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, the details on who will run the fund will be made public much later.

Speaking on Monday, he said this will be done once the Finance Bill, 2023 is passed by parliament.

Hinga was responding to a question by Spice FM's Eric Latif.

"This fund, the National Housing Development fund, when it's deducted. where does it go to? who manages it? NSSF is managed by a board of trustees, and the contributors are represented there, employers, the government is there and others who are helping to manage this fund," he asked.

The PS hinted that the body that will manage the fund, however, will have the same composition as those managing other mandatory deductions.

"It is going to have the same thing. You've also highlighted what has been our biggest dilemma. What is our dilemma? that information you are talking about is going to be released and why has it not been released? it is because that is contained in regulations. When you read the current bill it says that it will not be represented until the regulations are in place," Hinga said.

His remarks come amidst mixed reactions to the proposed Housing Fund by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

President William Ruto also insists that he is determined to see the Housing project to the end, despite strong opposition from Kenyans.

He insists it will help create jobs for Kenyan youths.
