Kenya, Singapore sign three MoUs for development

Kenya and Singapore have signed three Memorandum of Understanding to enhance development between the two countries.

President William Ruto on Thursday hosted Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at State House, Nairobi.

"I am happy to inform you that Loong and I witnessed the signing of the three Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on ICT, which will facilitate cooperation on cybersecurity, digitization of government services, ICT capacity building, among other items," he said.

The President added that they signed MoU on skills development which will facilitate collaboration in human resource capacity building.

It will help civil servants and students in specific areas that need to support sustainable socio-economic development priorities.

Ruto said ministers of the two countries have signed an MoU on Carbon Credit Collaboration.

He added that Carbon Credit Collaboration will provide a framework for the trading of carbon credits between the two countries in line with the stipulation of the Paris Agreement.

The Agreement also provides for the exchange of information, knowledge, best practices and capacity building on carbon credits and collaboration on projects which reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"The Prime Minister and I have had a fruitful engagement during which we discussed how we can work together with Singapore to develop a mutually beneficial strategic partnership in a dynamic and very competitive global marketplace," he said.

The President added that the two countries have agreed to develop a long-term strategic partnership anchored on many sectors of a mutually beneficial relationship.

Ruto said they discussed the potential of the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC) serving Sub-Saharan Africa on green financing.

"I have noticed that Enterprise Singapore has opened offices in Nairobi and I have committed to the Prime Minister that the government will work with Enterprise Singapore to ensure they network and partner with companies in Kenya and Singapore," he said.

The President spoke during a joint press conference with the Singaporean PM Loong who is on a two-day official visit.
