A nine-year-old boy drowned in a water tank as he ventured therein on Tuesday afternoon in Njoro, Nakuru County.

The body of Ryan Murimi was found floating in the 10,000-liter water tank moments after his parents had stepped out of the compound.

The parents told police they had left the boy alone in the house and went to a nearby market.

On coming back, they failed to find him despite repeated calls.

They then realized the lid of the water tank was open which was unusual.

On checking, they found the body of the boy floating.

They tried to rescue him and rushed him to Huruma Health Care where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said they arrived at the scene and processed it before the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

It is not clear if the boy slid into the tank or was thrown therein, police said adding that investigations into the same are ongoing.

In Rumuruti, Laikipia, a 16-year-old boy died by suicide in an incident.

The boy had been left in the house on Tuesday afternoon by the parents who said they came back and found his body hanging on a roof on a rope.

The motive of the incident is yet to be established.

The parents told police they came back and found the door of the house locked from inside and efforts to call the boy bore no fruits.

This prompted them to break the door and found the boy had died by suicide.

Police said they visited the scene and found the body with no visible injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and probe.

Cases of suicide involving both adults and children have been on the rise at an alarming rate.

Police reports show most of the victims die out of various forms of stress.
