Ruto appoints Bishop Oginde as EACC Chair

Former Citam Church Presiding Bishop David Oginde has been gazetted as the new Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson.

This comes after the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee last month approved his nomination.

President William Ruto nominated Oginde on March 11 and forwarded his name to the National Assembly for consideration.

The nomination followed a competitive recruitment process by the Public Service Commission.

Fourteen candidates had expressed interest in the position.

The PSC said upon the conclusion of the recruitment exercise, it settled on three names it considered suitable candidates for the post of EACC chair. 

The Commission forwarded to the President the names of Bishop  Oginde, former Makueni Governor Prof Kibutha Kibwana and Amani Yuda Komara. 

Bishop Oginde appeared before the JLAC for vetting on April 5 where he vowed to fight corruption if approved.

He revealed that his net worth stands at Sh170 million.

Oginde holds a PhD in Organisational Leadership from Regent University School of Business and Leadership, USA.

He is also a graduate of Pan Africa Christian University where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Leadership.

Oginde is also the immediate former Chancellor of Pan Africa Christian (PAC) University.

He held the presiding bishop post for 10 years at CITAM between 2010 and 2020, and also previously taught at Daystar University. 

An Architect by training, Bishop Oginde also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from the University of Nairobi and has previously undertaken Biblical Studies at the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Trinity International University) in Illinois, USA.
