Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to save his Jubilee Party which is now a 'hot piece of cake'.

Some party members who have pledged their loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza government want full control of the party while Azimio la Umoja coalition also claim the party belongs to them.

Uhuru has not been active in politics despite being the party leader.

Instead, his focus has been on the Peacekeeping mission in Ethiopia.

However, on Wednesday afternoon, a phone call by suspended secretary general Jeremiah Kioni saw Uhuru appear in public due to the ongoing party wrangles.

"Wakati nimepigiwa na SG na ameniambia yale ambayo yametendeka, nimekuja kusimama na yeye na wafuasi wa chama chetu kulinda haki ya chama chetu. Sina lolote lingine."

This translates to The moment I was called by the SG, he told me what had transpired and I have come to stand with him and our members to protect our party. I don't have anything else.

A standoff had been witnessed between the supporters of Kioni and  Jubilee party acting secretary general Kanini Kega at the premises.

The supporters were seen pelting stones at the Jubilee office headquarters in Kileleshwa.

There was a heavy police deployment in the area.

They used teargas to disperse the supporters.

The former president went ahead and sent a word of peace to the public.

"Nawauliza wakenya tuishi kwa amani. Tusikubali kuingizwa chuki. Tuishi kwa haki na kila kitu itakuwa sawa," Uhuru said.

In February, Uhuru affirmed that the party is fully in Azimio la Umoja coalition.

"Ata kama hatuko siasa active, bado tuko kwa ile chama tulikuwa nayo na bado tunaendelea kuunga Azimio mkono.Hakuna mambo yamebadilika," he said.

This translates to: "Even though I'm not in active politics, I'm still in the party and we are still part of and support the Azimio coalition. Nothing has changed," he said.

Uhuru further dared the Jubilee rebels who claimed that he should cease active in party politics.

"I may be retired but I am not tired," he said.

Uhuru was last seen in public during Easter while attending service in Mombasa.

This was Uhuru's first public appearance since the invasion at his family farm in Ruiru.
