Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has said he wishes to change his stance politically and start his support for President Ruto.

Through his Twitter handle on Tuesday Kabando outlined his decision to switch allegiance to President Ruto saying it was a choice he made in order to support the progress of democracy in the country.

He also spoke out against the renewed calls for demonstrations which he said is an attempt by the opposition to get a share of power in the government.

“I've remained supportive of Raila's grievances in the hope that our intense lobby for a public-interest agenda is centre stage. But maandamano main goal is a share in govt. I hold a contrary position. Henceforth, I'll support President Ruto if only to spur our nascent democracy,” his statement read

The former MP said his decision was best suited in a way that will offer him peace of mind.

“But I owe myself the comfort of my conscience and instinct. So, President, you've support against a vicious conspiracy to return handshake,” the statement read

He called out Azimio leader Raila Odinga who he said was misleading Kenyans on the matter of elections by claiming he won yet he didn’t win the 2022 Presidential elections.

“I find it incongruous for Raila Odinga to Still insist that he won 2022 when everyone within Azimio circles knows we ran a shambolic, self-defeating campaign. I reiterate, Raila lost largely for being a captive and defender of Uhuru's errors. But he is still stuck there,” the tweet read

In addition, Kabando urged the opposition to stick to its position and refrain from making any attempts to force its way into any power-sharing arrangements.

“It's becoming clear that Raila's maandamano will inevitably cause Ruto to submit a handshake/government. It'll be a big loss to democracy. Ruto won Raila lost. Raila must accept his opposition role, just like many of us his allies do whenever we lose elections,” the statement read

Kabando has in the past been a harsh critic of President Ruto and some of his decisions during his current term in power.

He had said President Ruto cannot be trusted to uphold the Constitution hence the need for thorough oversight.

“If Raila Odinga dims his torch as some are wishing, Kenya will be worse off. We shouldn't trust Ruto or his UDA behemoth to uphold democracy. Vigorous Oversight is needed,” he said on Twitter

Kabando has also criticized the President for what he termed as going back on his word and failing to reward hustlers.

"Tutaunda serikali ya bodaboda, mama mboga, mkokoteni, sio viti ya wadosi. Hasla atawale,” Kabando said.

“We recognise Ruto constitutionally validated President, but we admit is insensitive to mass sufferings, is deceptive, is clueless #Statecraft. 50 CAS to eat #Hustlers #Unga. #Ruto=Disaster.”
