President William Ruto on Sunday said he was a happy man with the u-turn by the opposition on churches.

Speaking in Donholm, the President said that post the August 2022 elections, the opposition has turned to churches.

He explained that before the elections the Opposition was pointing a finger at the Kenya Kwanza coalition for its attendance in churches, but now they have joined the routine.

" I'm a very happy President today because both the government and opposition have turned to the church. These people used to condemn us when we attended church services but I know they have discovered what it is in churches,' Ruto said.

Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has been asking the  Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders to stop what he termed as politicking in churches.

Raila accused leaders of the President William Ruto-led coalition had turned places of worship into a political battleground to push certain narratives against the opposition.

"We don't say politics in church. We come to church to pray and fellowship with fellow Christians. If we want to play politician we do it at rallies.

"But our opponents have turned churches into political battlegrounds. After service, they take to the podium to lecture us about this and that...No let the church be a place of worship. if you want to talk to us do it outside the church," Raila said.

However, President Ruto has remained firm and dismissed critics saying they should stop frustrating themselves because Kenya is a prayerful nation.

"I want to tell them to stop frustrating themselves because this is a place of prayer and it will continue being a place of prayer because Kenya is prayerful," he said.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on his side urged the President to continue leading Kenya with the gospel.

He told Ruto to continue using the gospel in his daily work as the President.

"My President, don't be ashamed of the gospel because a few people are saying its too much,' Sakaja said.
