The climate change agenda has been boosted after the International Organisation for Migration on Thursday donated 300,000 dollars (Sh40.5 million).

President William Ruto met with IOM Regional Director for East and Horn of Africa Mohammed Abdiker at State House, Nairobi.

Ruto said the donation will go a long way in driving the country's global climate agenda.

"We are grateful to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) for their generous contribution towards building a sustainable future for all," he said.

President Ruto asked African leaders to unite to deal with climate change, saying that the continent is extremely affected by its adverse impacts.

Speaking during the third Regional Symposium on Greening Judiciaries in Africa, Ruto said the global responses to climate change will institute structural change.

“Although climate change is a universal existential threat, there is good reason for Africa’s institutions and leadership to drive the agenda of mitigating its effects,” Ruto said.

He said the institutional reconfigurations and economic resets emanating from the change will install Africa not only as the continent of the future but as the world’s green economic superpower.

Ruto said the path of pollution is not an option even though Africa is focused on tackling poverty and inequality.
