Shock as motorist stabs bodaboda rider to death in Embakasi

Rider was carrying three pillion passenger when he was hit prompting confrontation

A minor traffic accident involving a bodaboda rider and a salon car turned tragic when the driver stabbed and killed the rider in the Embakasi area, Nairobi.

Police said the incident happened out of road rage following the slight accident.

The deceased was identified as Evans Okoth, 26, a bodaboda rider.

A second victim is nursing stab wounds following the Thursday, April 13 incident.

Police and witnesses said Okoth was carrying three pillion passengers on his bodaboda when he was involved in an accident with a salon car whose details have been retrieved and a hunt is ongoing.

The accident happened along Outering Road at Fedha stage, police said.

And after the accident, an argument ensued between the rider, his pillion passengers and the driver of the salon car.

This is after they failed to agree on who was in the wrong.

The rider and his passengers fell after the motorcycle was hit.

Witnesses said a fight broke out before the driver of the car drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed Okoth in the left side of the chest killing him on the spot.

He also stabbed one of the pillion passengers in the right thigh as the other two got scared and stayed away.

The driver dropped the killer weapon at the scene and jumped into his car and drove off fearing more attacks from other road users and pedestrians.

It was then police were called to the scene and helped to rush the two to the hospital where Okoth was pronounced dead.

The weapon was recovered and kept as an exhibit.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident. He said a hunt on the motorist is ongoing for him to tell his side of the story.

Incidents of road rage have been on the rise. Police blame most of them on the bodaboda riders who break the traffic rules.

As part of the efforts to address the menace, police have been conducting civic education on the riders.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in which a man claims he was shot and injured in Adams area on March 20, 2023.

Dan Ouma, 34, a motorcycle rider reported to police he was in the parking lot when he was shot twice by unknown people in the spine.

He said he was taken to the hospital where he had been for that long. The victim was treated and discharged weeks later and later reported to the police.

Police say they are investigating the incident.
