Kenyans on Twitter sparked mixed reactions on Thursday after KPLC was ranked as the sixth most valuable brand in Kenya.

The ranking also saw KPLC named the leading utility.

According to the research firm, Kenya Power Lighting Company achieved sixth place with a value of Sh16.2 billion.

Safaricom came first with a value of Sh 87 billion, worth almost 10 billion more than in 2022.

KPLC managing director Geoffrey Muli praised the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability to enhance customer experience and grow shareholder value.

"The company managed to earn an A+ brand rating in the ranking that measured brand perceptions among different stakeholder groups, where customers are the most important, as well as business and financial performance," said KPLC.

According to the Company, the introduction of self-service platforms and the MyPower App resulted in a 17% reduction in customers visiting the banking halls due to customer reliance on the self-service platforms.

Reacting to the news, a section of Kenyans questioned why the UK firm decided to rank the company on their behalf.

They said Kenyans themselves were better placed to rank local companies since they serve them.
