President William Ruto has promised to establish a consulate at Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to aid Kenyans living there.

The President revealed the pledge after a request was made by Defence CS Aden Duale who gave him a three-month ultimatum.

He, however, jokingly said that Duale did not request it courteously.

Ruto said that he will honour the request because it was a religious one and he respects God.

"You have said that you want a consulate in Jeddah, sometimes you ask but it is not given because you don't know how to request. Duale told me we need this, and you should do it quickly. He gave me a three-month ultimatum. I was also given another ultimatum a few days ago," Ruto said.

"I turned down the other ultimatum, I am contemplating turning down Duale's ultimatum. But because they are religious matters, we will establish a Consulate in Jeddah as you have requested."

He directed Deputy President Rigathi Gacghagua to prepare a report and submit it to Cabinet for approval.

Ruto spoke on Tuesday evening when he joined the Muslim faithful for Iftar at KICC.

"Grateful to have the honour of breaking the fast with a section of the Muslim community in Nairobi," Ruto said.

The President acknowledged that Ramadhan is a sacred tradition and a time of introspection, prayer and fasting for the Muslim Faithful.

He also stated it was the time to strengthen the bonds of family, community and kindness to the less fortunate.

Ruto was joined by his Deputy Gachagua, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, CS Duale, and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja among others.
