Pwani University closed, exams postponed after tragic accident

Graduation for the 2019 cohort remains scheduled for December 2023.

Learning at Pwani University has been suspended following the tragic accident involving one of their buses on Thursday.

In a memo by Vice Chancellor Mohamed Rajab, said learning at the institution will resume on April 17, 2023.

“The University will be closed from April 1, 2023, from 3.00 pm, and will reopen on April 17, 2023,”

The closure is aimed at giving students time to mourn their departed colleagues who perished in the Thursday accident.

Students have also been asked to use the break to seek counselling, and trauma management to cope with the circumstances and begin the healing process.

Following the closure of Pwani University, the examination calendar as well as the academic year 2023/24 have been adjusted

Official communication indicates that examinations will begin on 2nd May 2023, and end on 12th May 2023.

Graduation for the 2019 cohort remains scheduled for December 2023.

Teaching practice and field attachments will commence on 15th May 2023.

On Friday, the higher-learning institution suspended learning until Monday, but that has changed with the new memo.

"Following the tragic accident that took place in Naivasha involving our bus which was going for sports in Eldoret we wish to inform all students and faculty members that classes are hereby suspended. Normal classes will resume on Monday," read the memo.
